This films is Set on the time line of 1795, the film follows a group of Thugs led by Khudabaksh Azaad , who aspires to free Hindostan (the Indian subcontinent) from the rule of the expanding British East India Company.





 Alarmed, British commander John Clive sends a small-time Thug from Awadh, Firangi Mallah, to infiltrate and counter the threat.

This movie is based on a novel Confessions Of A Thug written by Philip Meadows Taylor. The novel tells the story of a daring thug, Ameer Ali. It was one of the  bestseller in 19th century in England.

Philip was an administrator officer who work for the Nizam of Hyderabad in the 19th century. During this time, a strong group of thugs took control in some parts of India.





 These thugs would befriend rich travellers and ultimately kill and rob them before burying them. British administration and the Indian royalty obviously had major problems with this cult.





 According to various estimates, these people had killed around 20 lakh people.

The British empire in India suppressed the thugs in the 1830s. 

The thugs were captured after Ameer Ali was arrested. His confessions led the British intelligence to make thousands of arrests and by 1870, the cult had become extinct in India.
